Custom Track Wheels

For Velocity Deep-V or B43 wheels go to this page, which makes ordering a little easier.

I stock a large variety of track hubs and wheel components and can build your wheels in any combination you’d like. If you’d like a hub or rim you don’t see on the website, please contact me. And please contact me if you have any questions about the choosing components for your custom wheels. All wheels built by me with approved components are covered by my lifetime guarantee.

How do I order custom track wheels through the website?

This page will walk you through it. The process is simple. Put your choice of hubs, rims, spokes and wheelbuild labor in your basket. Though the steps are numbered, the order in which you do then doesn’t matter.

Just follow the links as you go–they’ll open in a new window so you don’t have to navigate back to this page over and over–you will have to refresh this page for items you’ve put in your cart in other windows to show up here.

Step 1: Choose Hubs

Step 2: Choose Rims

Make sure that your rim hole numbers matches up to the spoke hole numbers.  Also, if your front and rear rims aren’t identical, be sure to put the rim you’d like on the front wheel in the basket first, or make a note when you checkout (there’s an option to send a note with your order), or send a separate e-mail–something– to let me know which rim you want on the front wheel.

Step 3: Choose Spokes

Step 4: Put Wheelbuilding Labor in the Cart

Track/SS Wheelbuild $5 per wheel

Single Wheel Labor
$5.00

Wheelset (2) Labor
$10.00

If you don’t already have some, don’t forget rim tape.

If you’d like your front wheel radial laced there is no extra charge. Be aware that this means you will not be able to take advantage of the specially priced DT Competition 282mm spokes on the spoke page, as the will be too long to use on a radially laced wheel
$0.00

Why do you charge less for track wheelbuilds?

Normal wheelbuild labor is $30, but I only charge $5 for track and singlespeed wheels for a couple of reasons–track wheelbuilds are relatively easy since the rear wheel isn’t dished and as I way to thank all the fixed wheel customers who have ordered hundreds of wheels from me throughout the years.  I might change the policy one day, but for now that is how it is.

I’m ordering a front wheel that doesn’t use a track hub, but since the labor involved is the same on all non-disc front wheels, can I use the $5 wheelbuild?

No, sorry.

That doesn’t make sense. The same labor is involved building both wheels.

It is the same labor and time.  I’ll tell you what, if you want the prices to be perfectly logical and rational–just for you–I’ll charge you the standard, higher price for all wheelbuilds. The $5 thing is solely offered at my discretion.

Will you lace my wheels in ________ pattern?

I build rear wheels with the number of crosses appropriate for the number of spoke holes, hub flange diameter, and effective rim diameter.  Front wheels can be built radial laced if the hub is approved for radial lacing.  I don’t build wheels with twisted spokes.  I don’t build wheels with elaborate cross patterns.  Many of these patterns look interesting, and some of them are just as strong as traditional cross lacing–some.  But many aren’t, and I don’t have time to thoroughly evaluate each proposed lacing pattern.  I stick with what I absolutely know works–tried and decades-long tested traditional lacing patterns.
