Busch & Muller Lumotec IQ Fly N Plus

iq-flyThe IQ Fly is probably as  bright a light as most cyclists will ever need, with improved optics and LED bulb the light is several orders brighter than older LED lights.  The drag is amazingly low.  To my mind this is the best very value in an LED dynamo headlight and I use it on my everyday bike. About the only knock on this light is the shape. It isn’t the most elegant thing around, and the height can make it difficult to mount in some spots other lights would fit. Comes with a very sturdy bracket for fork crown mounting and a built in reflector.

Like all Busch & Muller headlights, this light has optics which give the beam a horizontal cut off–like a car headlight on low beam. This means the light won’t blind other road users, and that the available light is focused on the road where you need it. It also has a standlight, which means the light stays on even when you’re stopped. To my mind, one of the great advantages of LED lights is that their long life means you effectively needn’t worry about the bulbs burning out, meaning you can use the headlight at all times. This gives you a little extra visibility in the day (and we’ll take all we can get) but also means the light is truly a set-it-up and forget it component. After I wire up a dynamo LED light on my bike I turn it on and forget it about. I don’t even flip a switch when I get on the bike. The only conceivable drawback is the extra drag during daytime riding when the light isn’t strictly necessary.  But 2 watts of drag doesn’t bother me in the least for the kind of riding I’m doing, and it doesn’t for most of our customers, either. This ease of use is one reason we’re such huge fans of dynamo powered LED systems.  They make your bicycle a better vehicle.  Just hop on and ride.
