These bar end shifters are simple, easy to use, shift well and are rock solid durable, making them an excellent choice for any bicycle.  The front shifter is friction only; the rear index or friction.  The friction action isn’t quite as nice as on the the friction-only Dia-Compe shifters we sell, but for those that are on the friction/index fence the Shimano are hard to beat. The eight speed shifter will work on seven speed or eight speed cassettes in index mode.   The nine speed will work on nine speed cassettes in index mode–and everything else in friction mode.
