The Golden Age of Handbuilt Bicycles
This large coffee table book beautifully documents bicycles from the French constructer era and later bicycles made in the same spirit. The photographs are absolutely stunning. One of the magnificent things about the book is that is shows example after example of high performing bicycles that are much more robust than the road bicycles of the follow-car era. Most bicycle have fenders, racks, and lighting systems. It also shows many technical innovations advertised as novel in the last two decades were already in use in the 30′s and 40′s.
